In The Silent Moments Before Dawn

– Poem By Nile Flores

Right before the light of the sun spills across the land,
a silence has occupied it for hours.
This is the time when deep thoughts are had,
especially when the weary are far from seeking rest.

In the silence, the brain wanders without direction.
Some thoughts seek a deep abyss of has-beens and what-ifs,
repeating those endlessly in order to drown you.
Other thoughts veer toward the horizon,
and eagerly await the dawn where hope is standing with open arms.

I’ve had all of these thoughts throughout my life,
and yet I’ve not drowned in the abyss.
Some days it’s tough,
and some times a friend or two needs to help hold me up.
I endeavor to look toward the horizon and embrace hope,
because in the silent moments before dawn, anything is possible.

Justice is Calling

poetry-thumbnailAround the time of 9-11 (yes, 2001), I had been angry for a lot of things and this piece came together. If you see a pattern in my poetry, I do a lot of free style poetry.

Justice is Calling

Poem written by Nile Flores in 2001

Do you see me?
I definitely see you
and what I see is appalling
With shrunken heads strung along your neck
One for every person you’ve killed
It’s amazing that the weight of it
– hasn’t either strangled you or caught you off balance
Blood drips from the corners of your mouth
as evil gleams a bright demonic orange in your eyes
You grin
-thinking you have won
and yet
-the dead tug at you and you certainly feel it in your bones
You choose to try to ignore the tugging fiercely
You feel you’re above it all
t4rying to lay silence over the voices trying to cloud your evil mind
Justice is running after you
She’s running blindly while waving a sword
Truth is guiding her like a seventh sense
– and she will find you in a time that catches you off guard
You are murder
You are arsen
You are sin
You are evil
And though your sings pile to the heavens
As you endeavor to create more bloodshed
– soon that pile will stop growing
for Justice will catch you
Your punishment will definitely be swift and painful

How Long Would It Take

December 7, 2013 by Nile 1 Comment

poetry-thumbnailAs I’ve reflected through my poetry, it’s evolved just like me. As a girl, I wasn’t interested in boys. I was interested in learning, and surviving, and being happy.

Through the years, my poetry has produced darkness and a sensual side. In fact, without my outlet in writing, I probably would have been emotionally stunted.

How Long Would It Take

Written in 2008 by Nile Flores

If I were in danger
– how long would it take until you’d arrive?
Would you arrive dashingly
– in silver armor and a shield better than an Honorable Ordinary,
with light and dark blue feathers and a matching cape
– stealing my breath away
Or would you not care
and rather show your snobbery
as I’m stuck in my uselessness
looking for the one destined for me.
I would hope you’d be valiant,
and fight off my demons,
then take me in your arms gently,
and show me what a man can only do.
Better yet, forget the niceties of chivalry
– I’m no fragile creature.
I may seem that way,
but I’m a hungry woman
– drunk on my desires.
That is the demon that plagues me the most.
So I ask dear knight
– how long would it take for you to arrive
and rescue this damsel from her demons?
